The car we have here is in fact rare. When i said rare, its not often does a convertable come with a manual transmission. When the car was taken out that morning, the weather was just perfect as the sun loved to shine its rays on the car.

Look a little bit closer and see if you spot it..
In the appearance department.. the body of the car is left stock, with the wheels being the only aftermarket items. Here again i’m refering to the appearance and not the performance.
One of the many things I like about this car is the way it sits.

Heres a better view of  wheel and tyre fitment. In the wheels and tyre department, the Advan Racing RS wheels measuring 18″ are wrapped in Potenza S001′s. Notice the big AP Racing 6 Pot brake kit? Well thats there for a reason!

The owner had opted to go for a facelift with getting a pair of front and rear lights from a newer Z.

The nice thing about this location is that, this happens to be the AMW Nissan worshop that
worked on the engine for a fresh rebuild to handle the new add ons on the engine. Capacity still remains at 3.5L , but when theres 3″ pipes running across the engine… It could be one thing!
Its turbocharged! This beast of a car runs on a GTM Twin Turbo kit which is good for 500+whp @1.4bar of boost. The Tial bovs are also part of the GTM Kit and they sound out of this world.
The HKS EVC Electronic boost controller ensures boost pressure is kept the way the owners wants it. At the moment its run at 1bar which puts the power figure to about 450 to the wheels.    
Cooling hoses are from Samco to ensure a tight fit for the coolants to the heart of this beast.
What i liked about the engine bay was that of how it was nicely fit and neat..
Nows the interior deparment.

The stock voltage meter on the left which is then followed by the Oil temp and finally its the multi info display, where it shows your tack lap time, the option to set your rev limit and also your digital speedometer.  
The owner has also added his personal touch on the interior. Notice the Orange stiching on the wheel and on the gear shifter? It gives off a nice ambience in matching the exterior color with the interior. What you see on the top right is the  HKS EVC unit. The owner insisted he wanted the car as clean as possible when the power upgrade was been carried out. He’s just like us, he too hates having guages sticking out of the usual places and therefore with the help from the boys at Rator Performance, it was made sure the EVC unit was tucked into the center console, to give that stock look to the car.
Naturally the cars a 6 Speed. Eventhough running the twin turbo setup, the car behaves like stock in the very low rpms.. not saying theres lag.. infact there is lots of torque, but the way that power is put down.. its put down in a very smooth way. Infact the owner says he likes to cruise in 5th as the low end torque gives enough omph to cruise in mild traffic.
I must say that when we went for a couple of spins in it that morning.. the TC switch was On and each time the pedal was pushed 30% and when the car comes on boost, you get pulled back on the seat and your bottom becomes a sensor where you feel all that power been thrown to the back wheels and then feel the TC cutting that power and then releasing it accordingly.

that the sun would do its thing on the interior.

So if you were to ask me to say one word that best describes this car… i would say Sleeper! you would never hear it sneak up behind you.. but you would only know it when its passed you Hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did.

When you think of Audi what comes to your mind? To me it was their Group B monster of the Quattro S1 and despite all the odd’s the guys at Audi  stepped into unknown territory and came forth victories on many occasions in the world of motorsports. Just like all other auto manufactures Audi too has a very strong history, and it was that history that continued on into all their newer designs.
Now enough with the history lesson.

Well then most of you all would have remembered the A6 above with those Lights from the Night races back in 2011.. Well i certainly remeber but unfortunately my camera doesnt, reseaon because each time i was on that tight corner of the track this thing would always come sneak up behind me and whizz pass by without a even a sound.. i was alway off guard in taking a pic of it. In saying that, it was also quite quick for its size.. hence i called it the stealth runner.  Since the night races I knew I had to dig deeper and find out what made this car tick the right boxes in me.

Then finally a day was set up and I got the opportunity to shoot it… To me this was special as it was my 1st time shooting an Audi  and it was also my 1st time shooting a brand new car.

One of the things I like about this runner was that of its interior.. unlike some cars on this same class, non of the buttons or knobs looked or felt cluttered. Whether your on the driver seat or on the passenger seat, everything is just within reach.
See what i mean. I will advice anyone who gets the chance to be in here… Just get a feel of the dashboard and see for themselves the craftmanship thats been gone in making this the 2nd best thing to be in than home.
If your a family guy, dont worry the ever so famous AC wars are over! Thanks to the 4 zone AC that gives individualist cooling to everyone.
To some guys, letting their better half take the wheel of their pride and joy is something of  great concern, as they feel parking is their greatest night mare. This would probably be a brownie point for those ladies who always wanted to drive their boy friends or husbands car (given that its an Audi) for along time.. The Parking Aid will definitely be their mediator
If you wondering where the fun part in driving this car is.. well then prepare yourselves for
The Audi Drive Select. Getting there is easy, simply by pressing the Car Button gets you to the Audi Drive Select Menu. Once there you have 4 options of choosing from. Comfort mode gives the car a very soft suspension for those uneven bumpy roads, the and the steering wheel gets light and at the same time the engine gets on to economy mode whilst the ratios of the gearbox changes for low RPM gear changes as low as 1500-2000rpm. The Auto mode will allow the computer to adjust the suspension, steering, engine and gearbox according to the way you drive. Then comes the fun part which is the Dynamic mode, on this mode you get a stiffer suspension which is ideal for cornering on say a track, the steering wheel gets stiffer which boosts the confidence level of the driver, and the engine would become a different animal by taking full use of the Audi Valve lift system plus a little extra boost pressure from its turbo. In addition the ratios of the gearbox changes for  higher RPM gearchanges. Finally you are left with the individual mode, on this mode you get to customize the toy the way you like it
Yes the multifunction steering with the paddle shift is standard… see the button with a head and 3 wave bars? Thats the voice control system, simply press that and command the car to dial a call for you courtesy of a built in bluetooth interface, change to a different radio station or get to the Drive select menu and so on.
for those audio lovers, your probably wondering whats going to put out the audio punch? Not to worry as Bose has come onboard with 12 Speakers to give you that feeling of a music studio in your incar entertainment system. You can even plug in your I Device (Ipad, Iphone or Ipod) on to the system and listen away to those tunes.
AC wars and leg space wars are over. With the balance 3rd and 4th zone AC controls and the more than adequate leg space that is made available thanks to a newly designed chassis.

With a face like that you cant seem to stop staring!

In the engine department.. the performance is been taken care of by Audi’s 2.0L turbo charged motor.. these engines are known for their strength and durability and to give you a rough idea how strong they are, they have been known to take double their power with the right given mods such as bigger injectors, bigger intercooler and turbo, and a retune.  But we are talking of factory power here and with its 180BHP and 320 Nm of torque is more than enough on our roads which includes abit of fun on the highway. As i have always said.. its not all about top end power that matters the most, instead its about how you get to that power via a nice big punch of  torque and then its how that power is put down on the road.
Thats what its turbo looks like. Those wheels
are from Quattro Gmbh. Measuring at 19″ and wrapped in 255/40 Pirelli rubber it ensures there’s plenty of grip on hand.  
Hows that for a pose?
When this C7 platform of the A6 was released it received alot of praise from the media. One of the highights of this car is that of its design where everything just flows with smoothness. Another highlight as mentioned earlier, was that of its newly designed chassis which is made using a hybrid combination of Aluminium and steel. This makes the A6 much lighter than its predessor and ensures better performance from the get go along with better fuel economy.

Seeing something like this in the rear view mirror is definitely going to be intimidating.

So there you have it, Audi’s latest and greatest A6 ever made. Seeing this is abit of a rare sight on our roads and when you do get the chance to see it, we suggest you to take a deep breath

A few years ago i remember seeing the ever so famous super car meet which was held at the nawam mawatha car park… and i thought wow thats just brilliant. The selection of car that were present that day was insane! Since then i remember hearing a few friends of mine  mentioning “back in that day… there was this super car meet where the best of Sri Lanka’s performance cars met”.

From then on the question that i kept asking my self was why hasnt it been happening… I never got the answer to that question until we celebrated our 1 year anniversary of pistontorque last year. Thats when i saw the true potential of our community! Everyone enjoyed last year and that was what made me come up with this meet up, which will from now on been an annual meet up!

Our 2nd Year meet up took place on the 3rd of February @3pm and below is what went down.

As we are celebrating our second year meetup today, I thought it will be fitting to release this feature at our meet.

The car above you see belongs to a good friend of ours, Muzahir. I remember him a few years ago when he used to own a Civic ES RS, fondly remember the part when He and a few mates of his came to pick up a set of Wheels from a friend of mine, and they all ended up carrying 2 wheels in the boot and 2 wheels on the laps of 3 of his mates in rear seat (Tight Fit) They complained of body aches the next day

Anyway, Muzahir has always been a Civic Nut, so from a RS to Type R is definitely a big feat.

He just loves his car just like many of us.. While on the shoot i noticed his eye for detail.

Notice the Mugen Lip? Talk about eye for detail. We infact were shooting in the same area of the JDM embassy with a very JDM car… saw a few Jap nationals passing by giving the sign of approval.

In fact this is the only Blue FD2 Type R in the country.

This just oozes with character.

Wheels and tyres check… as this is an R you gotta remember that from factory this car was built with light weight in mind.. therefore wheels are one of the areas they looked at when building it. Plus the body is supposedly built 50% more rigid than the DC5. Gotta ask the racing drivers about their experience in the DC5 and the FD2R.

Then theres the motor… The K20A puts out 225 horses.. But

this particular R has received the J’s Racing treatment when it was all the back in JDM land..  therefore the car is putting out much more than that!

We last witnessed a legal drag race exactly 12months ago, within a few months after it was organized everyone were soon thirsting up for another one! Although attempts were made to hold another drag battle early and mid this year failed, the green light came from the officials to hold it at the Katukurunda Air Strip to end this year.

The day began with a drive down the highway with a few friends

in a certain SR20 equipped Nissan.

As soon as we got there.. this is what i saw.

A few nights ago we thought it would be great to step out for some late night dinner during the mid week. We called our good friend Muditha to come talk about cars and also find out what he plans on doing to his newly acquired R34 Skyline GT.  This friends isnt a shoot.. Its just a random meet up that goes with a new title that you see above “# Street-Out #”.  So dont expect all the details that you would on a full feature.

A few days ago a message was sent out from a village far far away in Ja-ela for a sudden BMW meet up.. more like a farewell to an E34 known to many in the Bavarian Alternative Club.

Sam put out a call to meet up with a few close friends from the Bavarian Alternative club to bid farewell to Yuhaan’s E34. It was just a few who agreed as Saturday was a poya and this is what happened.

It was last month where i happened to hear a very distinctive sound being emitted… the sounds of equal length headers and then this silver ghost appeared in the dark… Fast forward few weeks ago and i was up at 5AM on a Saturday and then rode shot gun in this at 5:45AM on the calm Colombo suburb streets…  My plan was to capture this just as the sun was revealing its morning rays.

Gihan has been a big Subaru fan for a while now. Eversince he purchased his manual B4 RSK, he knew he was hooked to Boxer for life.. so he walked the path that Fuji heavy industries set before him.  Early this year he said bye to the B4 and got the keys to this standard STi ver 9 courtesy of BRJW. Eversince purchase he had the picture of the Spec C RA-R in his head, and a bit of shopping was done to get his standard 9 to be looking like that Spec C RA-R in his mind.

He managed to source these BBS 18″ wheels which has a deeper dish to that of the Spec C’s and…

removed those STi stickers on the side and on the front bumper fog covers. He was also able to source the rear Spec C spoiler to give it that stealthy look.

I can’t stop but admire the wheel and tyre fitment.

While we were on our way i asked Gihan his future plans for the car, he said he’s got the car to where he always wanted it to be and wont be touching it to squeeze more power, as he enjoys the factory torque on a daily basis to work. I agree with him… you can never use those top end horsepower on our local roads specially in peak traffic.. what matters is the lowdown torque that helps you whiz in and out of traffic, and a factory tuned STi has got plenty of it….

We all have heard the statement “we will always remember our first crush”. If i was to take that statement and put it into the life of a petrol head, it would then obviously mean a car. By now you probably know that EK9′s and Me have a sort of history.

If your wondering whats so special about this EK9 to me other than its Normal Aspirated Numbers or its power to weight ratio or its driving dynamics, then let me just tell you : When i turned 18 this car right here was the 1st performance car i drove thanks to my friend who bought it back then. It was the 1st time i felt Vtec kick in at 6000rpm. This was the car that taught me the meaning of simple and functional factory modifications . It also prevented my mind from going rice boy crazy when i took a peek at the world of aftermarket tuning.  This car right here is my master! Each time i see it i appreciate Honda for making its 1st fwd car to carry the Type R badge.

The last time i saw this car was back in 2007. Ever since then it was locked away…. until recently when the car came up for sale and Rodney aka Rodbot got his hands on it.

Rodney is no usual guy when it comes to cars. He is one of the guys who had the guts to buy an auto box 4 door Honda Integra DB8 and pull out its D15 1.5L heart and nerves and replace them with the ITR’s B18c  motor and tranny…. thus following the statement of “built and not bought.” He then replaced the Integra with an EK9, after a while of using it a friend of his was looking for one for track duty… hence he sold it and decided to use a normal EK3. A few months down the line an Iconic EK9 type R decided to come out of the dark and into the light and Rodney just went ahead and got it. If your wondering why this car is iconic, thats because it too was a hero back in its racing days… It went on to win a few championships in its class.

Ever since the inception of pistontorque, rodney has always been a strong follower of  the blog. Back then we tried our level best to meet up for a shoot when he owned his previous EK9, but failed due to our busy schedules. When he got his hands on this particular car we knew he had to sacrifice an arm and a leg to get the shoot done lol.

The joy of up shifting or downshifting is felt from this…. Just one of the tools that makes you feel 100% connected to the car.

Just like any other Japanese car this came with a limiter to 180. That limiter was soon removed after the car was imported and soon the car was doing a little over 190.
Now the car is running with an Emanage Blue so i m guessing its putting out abit more than that factory quoted power figure of 185bhp.

^^We tried recording a video clip from inside the car as well but unfortunately the mounting device didnt allow for the audio to be recorded. But we will be uploading a video of the ride along minus the sound. So keep an eye out for it on the FB page ^^
